POE refrigerator oil

Maintaining refrigeration systems that use Polyolester (POE) oil requires specialized care due to its extreme hygroscopic nature—meaning it absorbs moisture from the air rapidly. POE oil is a synthetic lubricant used with HFC refrigerants (such as R134a, R410a, R404A) and is crucial for proper oil return and compressor lubrication.

If converting a system from mineral oil to POE, ensure multiple flushes are performed to reduce residual mineral oil to less than 5%. A suction line filter-drier should be installed to capture debris released by the cleaning action of the POE oil.
