NSF 3H lubricants
NSF 3H category direct food contact oil
NSF 3H category lubricants are food-grade products approved for direct, continuous contact with food, designed to prevent sticking (release agents) on grills, loaves, pans, and cutters. Unlike H1 lubricants, 3H products are safe for direct food contact and are used on processing machinery like dough rollers and meat cutters.

NSF 3H bakery knives oil
NSF 3H lubricants are specialized food-grade oils designed for direct contact with food, specifically acting as release agents on cutting blades, knives, bakery tins, moulds, and dough dividers. Unlike H1 lubricants (incidental contact), 3H oils prevent dough or product sticking in high-stakes production areas where the lubricant touches the food
Another caregory H3 lubricants are additives that can be used in the formulation of food-grade products. H3 lubricants are often “edible oils,” and are safe for human consumption such as corn oil, sunflower oil, soybean oil, or cottonseed oil. H3 lubricants are inherently biodegradable, and meet FDA 21 CFR 172.860 and 172.878 regulations. They are considered to be safe (GRAS) – “an American FDA designation that a chemical or substance added to food is considered safe by experts, and so is exempted from the usual Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FFDCA) food additive tolerance requirements.” H3 lubrications are often used to clean and prevent rust on equipment such as hooks, conveyor belts, and trolleys.
NSF H3 type Edible oils
NSF H3 type oils used as direct contact rust preventatives. Commonly applied to meat hooks, trolleys, knives, cutting boards, or similar equipment. Surfaces treated with H3 lubricants may come into direct contact with food.
| Category | Product | Description | TDS |
| NSH 3H category oils | Molylub FoodSafe 3H | Food grade industrial machinery non-toxic lubrication oils with different viscosity grades | |
| NSF H3 category edible oils | Molylub FoodSafe Light | Food grade industrial machinery direct contact safety oils |
NSF H3 lubricants may only contain edible oils that satisfy FDA 21 CFR 172.860 (such as corn, soybean or cottonseed oils), certain mineral oils that meet FDA 21 CFR 172.878, and oils generally recognized as safe (GRAS) under either FDA 21 CFR 182 or FDA 21 CFR 184. H3 lubricants are typically used to clean and prevent rust on hooks, trolleys and other such equipment.

Key Benefits of 3H Oils in Bakeries
-
Direct Contact Safety: Approved for use where the lubricant is unavoidable in the final product (up to 100 ppm).
-
Prevents Sticking: Excellent release properties for dough on knives, divider blades, and conveyors.
-
High-Temperature Performance: Resists blackening on pans and maintains effectiveness under heat, unlike standard food oils.
-
Machine Protection: Protects tools against corrosion and reduces wear on cutting edges.
-
Compliance: Meets food safety regulations such as BRCGS, IFS, and FSSC 22000.
